My experience with RK Drums was terrific. Everything arrived as expected, and setup was very easy with the help of Shane's videos on Youtube. Shane went above and beyond by calling me on the phone and walking me through my first three roasts after walking me through the process for about an hour beforehand. Shane and this company are very passionate about supporting the people and businesses who use their products, and they want the best for you. They don't just help you with setting up your roaster, they help you with everything required to start and advance your coffee business. As far as the roasting drum itself, it has worked perfectly for dozens of roasts, and it is clear that it is a very high quality product that will last for a very long time. Hi Shane I just wanted to leave a few comments about our recent purchase. First thing is that I would recommend shipping the kits all together as opposed to from three or four places because it took 3 plus weeks and some calls and texting to assure delivery of everything purchased. Also shipping costs seemed very high. Second thing I found was the motor and motor mount did not line up very well which required me to add washers to square things up. Third issue was the 4lb roaster door was very hard to open and close until I filed it a bit along with the clasp to keep door shut is kind of difficult to operate. Again just wanted you to be aware of our experience with obtaining and assembling the kit. Hopefully we will enjoy the unit as I’m testing my first roast today.

I was trying to leave a review, but got to here instead. I have been using the rk drum for about 5 years with excellent results. Maybe lost 2 batches total in the whole time , roasting outside in zero degree to 90 degree temperature range. I did overheat the drum during preheat once, and the latch lost it's temper and opened prematurely. And I burned the first batch. But all good since. It seems the website is still not 100% bug free, - I get jitters when I try to scroll with a mouse. My question: what is your solution to rotisserie squeaking? - annoys the neighbors. It was an easy set up. The videos were perfect, easy to follow. The equipment was better than what I expected. The drum will last for many years. I started with a 2lbs drum and I'm thinking of an 8lbs drum already. Did 2 sample runs, coffee I got from Royal NY. Guatemalan coffee light roast took out at 1st crack and Colombian Supremo dark with a little oil. Probably a little too long. Maybe 2 more sample runs to get a feeling of the roaster and after that go with the whole 2 pounds or 8. Who knows.

Great product for roasting at home. Shane is excellent and right there on the site with helpful insights and a wealth of knowledge of the coffee industry. RK Drums was perfect for me in taking the next step in home roasting. Simple method with great results. The step by step videos on the site make it an easy process to start you on your roasting path. Coffee has been my hobby now for 10 years and thanks to finding RK and Shane I feel I can move on to the next level and am looking forward to it.

I purchased my RK Drum in June 2021 with the idea of roasting coffee as a side business. After roasting for a year, I lost a pretty well paying job and went full time roasting. Since then, we have increased production to roughly 200 pounds per week. Many customers say we have the best tasting coffee around and we are in a competitive market with multiple small, local Roasters. I have owned an 8# RK drum for about 8 years. It has roasted literally TONS of coffee! With all of the heating and cooling cycles the drum had gone through, one of the internal vanes gave way and needed to be repaired. Back in March 2022 we started grilling coffee for fun and then realized we could sell it. We purchased an 8lb drum setup from Shane and gave him a call and he helped us through some of our roasting process. We then bought a trailer, remodeled it and got it permitted as a coffee trailer. Then, out of nowhere, we got a call from Fox Sports stating they wanted to feature a local small business during a Super Bowl-adjacent commercial spot for a major accounting software. They picked our company and we're so excited to share the grilling process on national TV! Shane and his team build extremely durable roasting drums, and provide top notch customer service. With his help, roasting coffee became financially accessible to us, and gave us an eco-friendly way to roast coffee without the energy consumption of a massive roasting machine. And most people who try our coffee say it's some of the best coffee they've had - and they stopped using creamer because the black coffee is so good! We'd highly recommend RK Drums to anyone looking to get into roasting.

I have been trying to transition out from electrical drum roaster so I can roast multiple pounds of coffee at once without spending over $10k for a bit. Shane has been fantastic helping me select the appropriate product, and made me feel like I was his only customer, generously answering all my questions. Kit showed up, it was quickly assembled and out to use. The drums are built to last for a lifetime, their thermal mass will make you roasting job much easier... All in all I could not be happier with both the customer service that I received and the product itself.

Well, first off trying to find a good company that deals in roasting equipment can be very difficult and a ridicules to say the least. But, stumbling onto RK Drums has been a positive experience from the very start. After receiving my 6 pound drum kit with everything in it I noticed an error and Shane wasted no time fixing it and sending out the replacement. Also, the rotisserie to motor connection part with rubber was never packed and Shane had it shipped the next day as well. I’m so glad that I found this company and did business with them. Shane’s attention to the customer is truly unparalleled from my personal experiences. He will do everything he can to help you every step of the way, he proves that by actions not just words. Everything from selecting the equipment I wanted, to assembly, and roasting was a breeze. The equipment was shipped fast and Shane makes sure you have all you need for a successful roast. The experience I am having with RK drums (Shane) is on going! Shane spends so much of his time helping me I feel guilty! He has so much wisdom and knowledge to arm you with when using the RK drum. I have the 12 lb drum. The information you need for this type of roasting is so unique and worthwhile! He has helped get to a roast I didn't think possible...and it's not easy to teach and "old dog" (66) new tricks! Truth is I've been reading about RKDrums and watching the videos for over a year. Aside from having one, I think I knew just about everything I could find on the web. The most stressful part was actually picking out the grill! Shane chatted with me on a Saturday afternoon for a solid hour answering all my questions. Like a good salesman, he related to my previous roasting experience on my electric drum roaster that gives me about 12 ounces after nearly 30 minutes of my time investment. Shane talked me up to a 6lb drum from the 2lb'r I was ready to buy. I ordered the DIY kit, and as unhandy as I am, had very little difficulty putting it together using his videos and a couple chats online for specifics I didn't buy my first trip to the Depot. I have already done a few roasts, and while Shane offered to coach me through a roast, it's actually very easy and my fear of turning 5 lbs of beans to charcoal hasn't happened yet. Such a fun well made product, excellent service, and I have a line of friends and family waiting for their free samples! Great job Shane and team!

What an eye opening experience this has been! I’m here because of a recommendation from another friend who also owns a 12 lb roaster and after seeing what it could do I decided to get my own. The drum is awesome. I started with a retrofit of one of those drums you can find on that "Amazin" distribution companies website and fell in love with roasting coffee. Didn't even know I was missing out till I got the RK drum. The roast is far more even across the 2 pounds with far fewer throw out beans than in the other. I can only assume this due to the quality of materials used as The RK drum is way higher quality. The beans come to temp much faster and the drum retains heat far better. Thanks to RK for making my coffee in the am even better.

After several years of regular use of my RK Drum system the motor quit working. Since home-roasted coffee had become something my entire family--both home and extended--depended on and valued even a few day break in getting back up and running seemed a problem in need of a fast fix. Shane at RK Drum took immediate interest and spent a substantial amount of time helping me figure out what I needed to do. (In retrospect it turned out to be straightforward and even simple though that was not obvious to me at the start.) He personally got the replacement motor ready and sent right away. Rewiring was simple. Shane recommended a Facebook explanation that turned out to be one of several for the use of the RK Drum--well worth browsing through for other information. Great company, a great product and very helpful (and patient) staff....

Alright so here's the rundown. ..There is without a doubt / no question that this company gives some of the best customer service ever experienced ! Just read the reviews...and if it helps I will 2nd / back up any review that raves about it...110%. On the roaster end of things...there is no doubt these drums are built to last. Hand crafted with steel and fire ( which I have also brought on as a modo for the back of my bags...thanks for that one Shane ; ) Learn to roast with sight, sound, smell and time...all of which Shane is happy to help guide you along with...and you will be amazied in the quality of cup you can bring to the table. Like anything there are some learning curves involved...but so is life : ) But I will say I was able to work out the brunt of those learning curves in less than half a dozen roast at a smaller capacity. I know roast on my 12# drum 3x a week w/ consistency. Thanks to everyone at Rk who takes the time to put in the work to bring an amazing product to the table w/o having to sell the farm !

I am a hobby roaster and have had the 8LB, RK Drum coffee roaster for about 10 years and roasted well over a thousand pounds of coffee beans. It is a great roaster that allow me to roast small batch beans and customize the roast for the individual. Every thing from a light, medium, city, full city roast and any thing in between. Making for great gifts that satisfies the individuals taste. This summer I noticed that the base of the unit had a slight weld separation. I contacted RK Drums and they did not ask how long have you had the drum or what did you do to the drum. I was told to pack the Drum and send it in. RK Drums would check out and repair the drum and return the drum to me at no cost. RK Drums did an excellent job and definitely lived up to their life time guarantee. Buy an RK Drum and enjoy a wonderful craft roasted coffee just the way you like it.

And the roaster itself is nothing short of amazing and easy to learn. I’m semi-reserved to highly recommend them, because it is almost like a trade secret. I think roasteries would pop up everywhere if people knew how easy it was. And these guys are there to guide you to make it easy. Do not have reservations about the quality of the roast! The coffee coming out of this RK drum is better than a lot of coffee roasteries using high dollar roasters!

Great product! Well-built (over-built) after putting 50# of coffee through it now I can say the more I use it the more I like it. I was unsure at first but now I’m very happy with my decision. Shane has the best customer service I’ve ever experienced from any business or corporation. They can learn from him how to treat customers. Shane got back with me immediately every time. Answered all of my sometimes silly questions. He was extremely helpful and I am very happy that he’s in business offering a great product that works so well for me. If I had to find a negative it would be how loud the motor is. That would not change my decision to purchase. Happy customer.

I had been considering purchasing a bigger roaster for several months and stumbled across some recommendations for RK Drums. The videos and Shane's very prompt replies to my questions convinced me to order my roasting drum. The drum was finished in the expected time and Shane spent time to give an overview of the roasting process and answer any questions. The drum was very solid and very good quality. After ordering the drum, I had watched the assembly videos, so there were no surprises when it came to selecting the grill, modifying it and installing the drum, the motor and related brackets. I had previously only used a small stove-top roaster, so roasting with a much larger drum was initially intimidating. Fortunately, the videos for roasting have been very helpful while I'm still learning and improving my roasts. I'd definitely recommend purchasing a drum from RK Drums and wouldn't hesitate to order an additional drum from them.

Got my order fairly quickly. From there it was easy to set up. Was really nice that the assembly guide is a bunch of videos that are broken up by content, so if you don’t need a part of the instructions you can just skip to where you need help and don’t have to scroll through one video looking for what you need. With in a couple hours I had my roaster set up, burnt in and ready to get my first roast in! Will definitely come back for all my future needs!

He’s a professor when it comes to this stuff, and knows what it takes to make his product produce the best coffee for you that it can with your setup. But, I have to say, I looked into buying a motor, then a coupler, then the metal for a stand, then the time making the stand myself, and it was WAY easier and probably not much more expensive to just buy his setup. Can’t wait to roast my virgin roast soon, and now I know I have a support system available. Awesome. Just awesome!

Hello Shane, just wanted to update you. I came up with a different, and I hope better option, with respect to getting the base plate on the right side of the barbeque where the warmer burner was located. I will go over that, send you pictures and we can talk about it later. I did the 500 degree burn. Tomorrow I try and get to the tightening done. And, having read the roasting profiles on your website, I will probably do one or two roasting and see how the bean react. I did not dig thoroughly through the website, for a profile for decaf beans. My wife drinks decaf. And, I know from having the Behmor roaster for over 14 years, the decaf profile is quite different. The last comment is kind of minor, but I did dial in exactly five hundred degrees and marked the position of the burner dials. So, obviously, I will be really looking at the result of our first and second roasts. Thanks to you for all the help you have given me in changing my roasting equipment which will outlive me and possibly the person who inherits it from me after I pass! I will be in touch with you soon.

RK drums are fantastic! I've been roasting using a simple metal bowl and heat gun for about two years and finally decided to upgrade my coffee roasting apparatus to Shane's RK drum roasters after hearing so much about them in the /r/homeroasting subreddit. I ordered the 6 lb Everything Kit and completed the build in a day. I did the burn-in and my first roast of Brazilian Cafe Minas Paqueno from Sweet Maria's and man, was I blown away by the consistency of color, aroma, and flavor of coffee that this drum produced. Now, instead of only being able to produce about 3/4 lb of coffee per roast session, I can easily do 18+ lbs of coffee an hour. This is an excellent purchase if you are looking to up your roasting game and start selling coffee beyond just friends and family. If you are just starting out, I'd suggest getting a 2 lb everything kit and then get a bigger drum if you wanted to produce more.

Shane is the man! You cannot ask for better customer service than what RK Drums provides. Every question I had was promptly and thoroughly answered by Shane. He is super knowledgeable when it comes coffee roasting and he is more than willing to share his expertise and insight. I have yet to build my roaster yet but every piece of equipment provided by RK Drums is in great condition. I have no doubt that with RK Drums equipment and customer service that I will be roasting some delicious coffee in no time! If you are looking to get into home coffee roasting or want to increase your production, I highly highly recommend going with Shane and RK Drums!

A quick phone call became a learning experience and I ordered the 2lb drum. Initially I thought my 6rpm BBQ motor would do the job but was I wrong! A slow motor will give you an inconsistent roast. After purchasing the right motor from RK my roast improved dramatically. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend RK Drum Roasters and their excellent customer service.

It was a little bit of a learning curve to get going for me, and Shane confidently walked me through every step of the way and continues to help anytime I reach out. If you are on the fence about an RK Drum, go ahead and pull the trigger would be my suggestion based on my experience.

Nothing to complain about, I have only good things to say. Clearly, RK Drums is targeted more towards coffee roasting. I had trouble with roasting nuts, which RK Drums didn't have much experience with (so it could help if there were guides on roasting other foods, but perhaps there isn't a large enough market for it). RK Drums wasn't for me, but the customer service was just as good if not better than the best I've experienced. Shane spent time with me on the phone and we exchanged multiple emails to answer all of my questions, and help me solve problems I was having. The product itself is well built, durable, and easy to assemble with the detailed installation videos, which are very thorough and don't leave anything out.

I have nothing but great things to say about RK Drums. The durability and value of the products is outstanding, and the instructional videos are straightforward, informative, and detailed. I learned some handy things that I might not have otherwise learned! Aside from the products themselves, the customer service is great. Shane is very accessible, attentive, and eager to help his customers with whatever they need. Additionally, Shane is clearly passionate about his craft. He's worked with me to figure out problems in my production process. If you want to do business with a business that is honest and cares, do business with RK Drums. 😁

My old hand-built 2-pound roaster made from aluminum and stainless steel powered by the standard Weber rotisserie parts have been in use for about 5 years and was gradually wearing out. That motor is way too slow to get an even roast, so manual intervention and constant baby-sitting was required. My wife surprised me with a new 4 pound RK drum for Father's Day. Man, was I surprised at the quality of the materials and workmanship. The new drum required a lot more new parts, i.e., new motor, motor mount, 50" rod, panel-mount switch, panel mount IEC connector, NEMA power cord, plastic junction box intalled under grill, plastic-head thumb screws to remove the motor when not roasting, grill modifications to accommodate the new setup, etc. This became a rather expensive endeavor but man, was it ever worth it. I contacted Shane via the website's Chat function and he "picked up" immediately ON A WEEKEND and was very helpful. Overall, I believe you can roast many different ways, but for me, RK Drums was the best solution to maintain my expensive grill for dual purpose roasting and grilling. I'd give RK Drums 11 out of 10 stars.

Excellent experience!! I’ve been roasting on a 4lb drum for 10 years now. The most amazing thing to me - beyond the incredible quality of their products - is how available Shane is to talk & answer all my questions. I’ve become a better roaster over these last 6 months from Shane’s input. I purchased the motor kit and was a little surprised with the amount of assembly required as I was looking more for a plug and play application. When I first thought about switching from my Hottop 2K+ to an RK setup, I had my doubts! Shane contacted me and answered all the questions I had about roasting on an RK set up. Needless to say, I love love love my 8lb RK drum roaster! All hiccups and bugs are worked out (very very easy fixes) and this thing produces amazing coffee and the consistency is spot on every roast! I was looking for an economical alternative to to traditional roasting systems. Not only did I find the equipment I was looking for, Shane was extremely personable. We had a lengthy conversation on the phone. He ensured that I understood all aspects of the machinery in addition to walking me through the process of roasting on this system. I purchased the 8lb Everything Kit along with the Model T Advanced cooler after a few months of researching various smaller sized commercial roasters. The commercial roasters were simply out of my price range so I started to seriously consider the RK Drum roaster. I had absolutely no background in coffee roasting but knew that I wanted to roast coffee! After lots of reading and watching Shane's videos, I took the plunge. It was quickly shipped and before long I was assembling my roaster with no problems whatsoever. After locating some relatively inexpensive beans (they're out there, you just have to look) I started roasting. I've roasted twelve to fifteen batches so far and all have been great except for one that got away from me and caught fire. Just as Shane says, you've got to learn your particular grill and just start roasting. It's all coming together for me now and friends and family love the fresh coffee. Excellent product, excellent support. Have been using my RK Drum roaster for nearly 13 years, problem free. Built like a tank! The available inexpensive upgrades I've added along the way made what was already an efficient and elegant way to roast coffee even better. When I was new to coffee roasting I received via email correspondence some individual coaching on how to roast and utilize the roasting drum. I only drink coffee that I didn't roast as a very last resort under extenuating circumstances. This product and the company that produces it provide excellence that is getting more and more rare as time goes by!

RK Drums has been a fantastic source of information and equipment for me over the last five years or so. Shane’s live support on my first few roasts got me off to a great start. Over the years I have dialed in my roasting sequence, temps, times etc. and the results are excellent. For anyone wanting to graduate from poppers to larger volume, less fiddling around, or just wanting to get into roasting for the first time, a BBQ roaster plus Shane’s drum is a great way to go.

Epic! RK Drums are the best! Great customer support! Best coffee on the planet comes from my own recycled backyard BBQ roaster. I love/hate going into fancy roasting cafés/roasting houses, only to realize that my coffee is way, way better, because it is fresh! And it doesn't cost freaking $16 a pound(Rogue Valley, OR has numerous hoity toity roasters).

It was good. I've had the drum now for a while and I'm still roasting in it. My experience purchasing it was positive. The material came on time and the instructions were good. The only thing I've had to modify is to add a support bracket to have to rotisserie spit rest on, rather than having all the weight rest on the shaft of the motor. There was no issue that prompted this modification, just my own desire to ensure the motor was exposed to as little stress as possible from the weight of the beans and drum.

Quite possibly one of the best customer experiences I've had. Not surprising from an independently owned business. Shane spent so much time on the phone with me, not only to give me information about the product, but also tips about setting up the grill conversion and getting started on how to roast. I do need a new fan for my motor a couple years later, one of the fins broke off, but it still works great!

I have had my RK drum for almost 20 years. I bought mine from Ron before he passed away. It is as good as the day I bought it. It works really great and mine doesn't have the new fins which are supposed to help move the beans better. You really need to be very careful because the drum is very hot when you remove it from the grill. It isn't the easiest thing to use but I love it and am never tempted to switch to another methond.

We started using RK Drums when we started a commerical roastery. Over a two year period we had no trouble with our barbeque roaster. The support from RK Drum was excellent. I urge roasters to keep a log of every roast in order to improve the roasting experience. We "graduated" from our barbeque roaster because as business grew we needed larger capacity and living in Canada we wanted to b e inside in winter.

Overall, my experience with RK Drums has been great. There are times where I’ve been intimidated by the DIY nature of it, but it has been easy enough to get once you’ve done it. The final product you can get from it is astronomically good. I’ve had people do taste comparisons against some pretty high caliber companies, and my roasts have won out. If you want to roast excellent coffee without spending 10k to get in the door, an RK drum is the way to go.

I've had multiple interactions with RK Drums and every one of them has been excellent. The only thing better than their customer service are their products. I have recommended RK Drums products to many people, colleagues and friends alike.

I've own two RK drums - one custom sized, and one 12-lb, and have roasted over one ton of coffee with these setups. Before investing in RK, I purchased two drums on eBay which only lasted around 1 year each. In contrast, neither RK drum has needed replaced in the 2+ years of ownership despite my increased roasting volume.

The only thing I'd like to see a better mount between the drum and grill to reduce the squeaky noise and improve rigidity.
